About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Borussia Mönchengladbach secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Union Berlin in their Bundesliga clash on Saturday, 28 February 2026. The match was a tightly contested affair, with both teams struggling to break the deadlock until the final moments. Kevin Diks (GAP +1.4%) emerged as the hero for the home side, scoring the decisive goal in the 90th minute. The game was characterized by a lack of clear-cut chances, with both defenses holding firm for the majority of the match. Borussia Mönchengladbach's tactical setup allowed them to control possession, but Union Berlin's disciplined defensive structure made it difficult for the hosts to create significant opportunities. The breakthrough came late, as Diks capitalized on a rare lapse in Union Berlin's defense to secure all three points for his team. In terms of lineup changes, Borussia Mönchengladbach's manager opted for a stable approach, making no changes from their previous outing. On the other hand, Union Berlin's head coach made several adjustments, bringing in Ilyas Ansah, Dmytro Bohdanov, Livan Burcu, Janik Haberer, and Alex Král as substitutes during the match. These changes were likely tactical, aiming to inject fresh energy into the team as they sought to find a way past Mönchengladbach's defense. Joe Scally (GAP +3.8%) was a standout performer for Borussia Mönchengladbach, contributing significantly to their defensive solidity. His performance, along with that of Nico Elvedi (GAP +1.7%), ensured that Union Berlin's attacking threats were kept at bay. This result sees Borussia Mönchengladbach continue their positive run, having now secured crucial points in their bid to climb the Bundesliga table. Union Berlin, meanwhile, will need to regroup and address their attacking inefficiencies as they look to bounce back in their next fixture. The victory provides Mönchengladbach with momentum as they aim to solidify their position in the upper half of the table.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
